Pack 1 Information Guide

Yes! Universities seek well-rounded applicants with demonstrated leadership skills, and Scouting America is renowned for affording Scouts hands-on leadership training and experience. Every Scout in Scouting America gets the opportunity to lead at every level of Scouting right up to and through the Eagle Scout achievement. Cub Scouts is a stepping-stone to Scouting America, giving Scouts a leg-up as they crossover into Scouting America during 5th grade.

The pack is the combined group of individual grade-level dens. Most of our Scouts attend McKenzie Elementary, however, youth from anywhere are welcome to join.

We offer many fun and engaging activities all year round with the primary goals being character building, good citizenship, physical fitness and healthy living, friendship, and fun!

Yearly dues for 2026–27 will be $170 for National Registration dues and $225 for Pack 1 dues. Dues include a subscription to Scout Life Magazine, all advancement badges and recognitions, a Pack 1 t-shirt, a Pinewood Derby car kit, and materials for all meetings and activities. Your dues check funds all Pack campouts and other Pack outings. Pack 1 is organizing a pilot fundraiser for the 2026–27 year with the goal of reducing Pack dues in future years.

Important: Scouting America is transitioning to a revised membership renewal cycle where all memberships will come due for renewal in February each year, rather than 12 months after the date each membership started. For this year only, all memberships will run through February 2028. A new member who joins before March 1, 2027, will pay annual dues for the following 12 months, plus a prorated amount for each additional month until February 2028.

Yes. While the pack provides a yellow Pack 1 t-shirt, the Scout should purchase their own blue Class A uniform, neckerchief, and slide. Belts, pants, vests, and hats are all optional.

You can anticipate approximately one pack event a month and one to two den meetings a month. Pack events include the Pinewood Derby, museum overnight, fall and spring campouts, and awards ceremonies. Den meetings focus on completing advancement requirements and diving deeper into the primary goals of Scouting. During the summer we offer pack events focused on enjoying the outdoors.

You may attend whenever it’s convenient for you! There is no minimum number of meetings or events that must be attended. Missed advancement requirements can generally be completed at home, at the Scout’s election. Scouts advance to the next den each year with their age group, regardless of advancements earned. Scouting is a group activity, however, and Scouts who regularly attend will get the most out of our program.

Scoutbook is an organization-wide online tool that we use to schedule and promote events and meetings, track RSVPs and each individual Scout’s advancement progress, and communicate with our members. We also communicate via email and other media.

It’s never too late to join Scouting! The dens are grouped by grade level, K–5, and your child will join the den that corresponds to their grade level regardless of previous Scouting experience. Scouts advance by grade regardless of achievements earned, so they’re always with their direct peers.

Yes! In only a few specific cases, such as the museum overnight, will we require exact headcounts and pre-registration. However, when possible, please do RSVP, as it helps us plan our events and activities.

Yes! Cub Scouts is a family program, and siblings and parents are encouraged to participate. Please bring friends, as well, as that’s the best way to recruit new members to join in the fun.

For Lion and Tiger Scouts (kindergarten and first grade), parental attendance is required. For older Scouts, please discuss attendance with your den leader. Parental involvement is always encouraged and welcome.

All the leaders of Pack 1 are parent volunteers and we can always use more help. No experience is required. Volunteer your time and skills and we will find a place for you to contribute.
